Internetrix received the award at a gala presentation evening for the Momentum Energy 2015 Illawarra Business Awards at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre on 23 October.
Internetrix won the Export Growth China Excellence in Export category and was a finalist in the Excellence in Small Business category. It then was named Business of the Year from the winners of the 14 categories.
It is the second time Internetrix has been named Illawarra Business of the Year. It won the award in 2007 when it became the second company in Australia to become a Google Analytics Certified Partner.
This year the award judges were particularly impressed by Internetrix’s expansion into China, where it opened a second office in Beijing in 2015 after successfully operating in Xiamen, Fujian Province for several years.
Internetrix now has a coveted Internet Content Provider (ICP) license from the Chinese Government, which has allowed it to expand its operations in China.
Congratulating the company, Illawarra Business Chamber CEO Debra Murphy said: “Internetrix has placed the Illawarra firmly on the world map, and they’re leading the way for other Illawarra businesses to follow into export markets.”
Internetrix Managing Director and co-owner Daniel Rowan described the award as recognition for the hard work and dedication of the company’s staff and the vision of his co-owners Jacinta Cali, who is Director of Website Projects and Michael David, who is Director of Online Performance.
“We decided to take the risk of developing a presence overseas because we believed that we had the skills and services to succeed in international markets,” Mr Rowan said. “Our staff have worked incredibly hard to prove that we can match it with international companies, and now we are seeing the results of their efforts.

“For example, being granted an ICP licence in China was a major achievement which took us to another level. It helped us strengthen relationships with Chinese government agencies, Australian government agencies operating in China and key stakeholders like Google and IBM in China and inspired us to open an office in the Chinese capital of Beijing. We’re now able to hold public training events at Google House in Beijing and Shanghai, which is great for our credibility in the market.”
Mr Rowan said the company was honoured to be named Business of the Year in their “home town” business awards.
“We were thrilled to receive the Excellence in Export at the Illawarra Business Awards, but to be named Business of the Year for a second time was an unexpected bonus,” he said. “There are many great businesses in the Illawarra, and many outstanding past winners of the Business of the Year award. It is a great honour to become a two-time winner, and to fly the flag for the technology sector which is really developing in the region.”
